Returning a Young Whistling Kite to the Wild
A collaborative wildlife rescue with Fight 4 Flight North Queensland
Posted: December 24, 2025
Skilled Trees recently assisted Fight 4 Flight North Queensland with the successful rescue and return of a young Whistling Kite to its nest, helping reunite the bird with its parents in a safe and controlled manner.
Wildlife rescue outcomes like this rely on quick identification, careful coordination and the ability to safely access difficult locations without causing harm to people, wildlife or the surrounding environment.
The rescue involved Skilled Trees team members Clint, Daniel and Adam working alongside Fight 4 Flight North Queensland and local wildlife carer Lara Owen. Lara’s keen observation and dedication led to the discovery of the young bird and its nest, allowing the rescue to proceed with the best possible chance of success.
Using appropriate access techniques and careful handling, the young Whistling Kite was safely returned to its nest — a moment that is always rewarding, but never taken lightly.
Returning juvenile birds to their nests can be a delicate operation. It requires precise access, steady handling and an understanding of both tree structure and wildlife behaviour.
These rescues can be nerve-racking, but when done correctly, they give young birds the best chance to remain with their parents until they are ready to fledge naturally.
Skilled Trees is proud to support local wildlife organisations and community members when specialist access and arboricultural skills can assist positive outcomes. We commend Fight 4 Flight North Queensland and Lara Owen for their ongoing commitment to wildlife care and conservation.
We’ll continue to keep an eye on this adventurous youngster and hope it stays safely in the nest until it’s ready to take flight.
